I want to research on information security concerning SMEs or Microfinance or financial institutions. I need areas to research into or topics that can help me research in this topics.
You have certainly chosen an interesting and challenging area. I would suggest you start by learing as much as you can about security. To that end, I would recommend you read Ross Anderson's book on Security Engineering. At over 1,000 pages long, it is comprehensive, but it is very well written and it will allow you to understand a great deal of what you will need to look at to move forward. The latest version you must buy, but Ross has put the second edition onlne, which you can download for free. I have added the link for that below.
There is certainly plenty to choose from. SMEs are a particularly interesting area to look at, as they tend to suffer a disadvantage as compared to large corporates due to restricted budgets, meaning they can't necessarily empoly the right kind of security staff to protect their business.
I have given you a list of papers which discuss security, a list which discuss privacy, and a list which refer to SMEs. That should give you plenty to get started with. I'd recommend you read Ross Anderson's book first, which will give you a much better understanding of all the issues involved. Then, look through the papers until you find an area that really interests you.
Thank you so much and i am glad you are helping me to do this. Please I need your feedback. I am pursing MSc MIS too and would want to do a final paper in security
Read as much as you can right now to get to understand the language used, the problem areas that currently exisit and what these problems are before you choose your topic. You should try to find an area that you are really intrested in, as your final dissertation will benefit from that.
