So far, computers are only supporting tools. They can only indicate cases (of text similarities) that should be verified by people anyway. If the computers were competent enough to ultimately judge, they could completely replace the scientists and conduct scientific research themselves ;)

May be in future artificial intelligence would help us to leap one step forward in detecting a bit of smart plagiarism too.
