I understand the question about the professionalism and identity construction of the teacher profession, but of students? To be a student is not a profession, although it is an identity construction.
On teacher / profession (-alism) and teacher/ identity, I recommend you to search in Google Scholar or databases for ”literature reviews” and possibly metastudies for identifying what you need. What is ”seminal” is often a question of discussion, related to a more defined subject area, and to the focus of a researcher.
