Among the Asante of Ghana, family property is considered as one that belongs to the living (in the material world) and the dead (ancestors who live in the spiritual world). It serves as social security for the family. Money, a house or land are examples. Because of the spiritual (ancestral) connection, such properties are not disposable. Land for example, is not supposed to be sold. Money lent to a family member has to be refunded before s/he dies.
It's know in Brazil we have a lot of indigenous nations, more than two hundred indigenous languages, each one with our own way of life and worldview. But we have also a very important influence of African people, languages, religions and cultures that were brought to Brazil in the colonial period. During more than three centuries, people that was slavery fled for lands in the interior of the country and created theirs own communities, recreating theirs ancestral worldview. Nowadays these communities and territories are called "quilombos" and have conquered the legal condition of "traditional communities" (like the indigenous ones), with collective possession and use of the land.
