I have basic knowledge of remote sensing and GIS with its application but I am not able to decide for my topic and don't understand which software to be practiced.
An interesting and emerging GIS topic in civil engineering could be modeling the topograpghy of bedrock. This knowledge could then have many implications in civil engineering and geotechnics.
I have attached in my reply a paper describing the GIS approach that can be used.
Hydrology and water flow modeling, pavement surface analysis, water resources management, transportation engineering - are some areas where GIS modleing is applicable to civil engineering
