WARNING To everyone - please check out the website before you even think about becoming involved with this publisher. All I can find is attempts to sell subscriptions to journals, but no access to even see what is in them. The beginning page appears to be a big fraud as they put the logos of many legitimate groups on here (such as PubMed) but these do not have anything to do with the publisher, only an attempt to sell subscriptions. BEWARE, this might be a new form of fraudulent or predatory publishing using a different model. Please Hayder Ali and Domingos Soares look carefully into what you are putting your name on. While clicking on the search button allows you to find journals/articles you cannot access them (ie. they are not available online unless you have a subscription) so publishing here might be a waste of a good article and the work you did. Also, I tried to do a scholar.google search for one of their titles (they did not show authors) and it did not appear in the articles, so it is probably NOT indexed by them.

In addition to what is said by Robert John Wolff I would say: have a careful look at this publisher. There are some observations:

-The publisher “i-manager publications” (http://www.imanagerpublications.com ) is mentioned in the updated version of the Beall’s list https://beallslist.net/#update

-The (outdated) info about being UGC approved (https://imanagerpublications.com/uploads/Catalogue%20for%20India.pdf ) is misleading since numerous titles were at the time removed, see https://lakshmibaicollege.in/Secure-admin/webroot/upload/customfiles/14022020122704Journals-Removed-from-UGC-Approved-List-of-Journals_removed%20(1).pdf

-FYI the replacement of the UGC approved journal list is the UGC CARE list, none of the titles of this publisher is listed (see https://ugccare.unipune.ac.in/apps1/home/index )

-I searched for i-manager's Journal on Nursing in Google Scholar and the majority of the papers I found (and was able to read because they were uploaded in for example ResearchGate) were published in a pretty short period of time.

It is however not only disturbing:

-The papers are indexed in ProQuest (and the first page can be read to get a brief idea about the paper)

-The Dimensions link seems to work give the whole operation some degree of professionalism

-At least some (if not all) of their papers are indexed in Google Scholar

-If you search for i-manager here on RG then numerous of their titles are indexed here on RG (and the doi assigned to the papers I checked seem to work properly)

-It is somewhat unclear but if you click on journal archive and click on a journal once you are on the overview page you need to click on “See All Issue” to see the content in terms of the title, authors, abstract and references of the papers of every issue published so far.

So, I would say it is somewhat ambiguous. Check some of their papers in your field of expertise and decide for yourself whether you want to get involved with them or not.

We are a Subscription based Publisher and do not charge any Publishing Fee to publish in any of the Journals published by us.

I find the post by Rob Keller and Robert John Wolff both demeaning, derogatory and defaming in all sense. We have not claimed to have been indexed in any of the academic databases which we are not indexed in.

1. 14 of i-manager's Journals were listed in UGC approved list of Journals from 2013 to 2018 and we have not claimed to be included in UGC Care list in our website anywhere. The link you have shared is not publicly available in our website and might be an old link which Google results are showing. We are not included in UGC care now and the link is showing our 2018 Catalogue when we were included in UGC approved list.

2. The video you have mentioned is only a representative video to show the No Publishing Fee policy we follow, and why we follow such policy. It shows people working in our office and representative images or video clips. But we have not claimed that the video has people who are associated with the company. We publish 38 peer-reviewed Journals currently and our Editorial Board comprises of people from universities worldwide. As mentioned earlier, the purpose of the video is to explain why we follow No Publishing fee policy.

3. As mentioned by you, we are abstracted and indexed in EBSCO, ProQuest, Google Scholar and all articles are registered with DOI and available in RG, Dimensions, Scilit etc. The average time from submission to Publication or Rejection status is 30 to 45 days, and we have an in-built Editorial Management System through which all articles are processed from Desk review to Peer Review to Final acceptance or Rejection.

4. Your post is really so depressing for a Publisher who has followed good academic and editorial processes for the past 20 years. On a Public forum like RG this is derogatory and defaming. How could you come to a conclusion without even checking our process with the Editorial Board?

5. We are not sure who is handling the updated version of the Beall's list, but academia is now like once bitten twice shy, and academics are seeing every Publisher with caution. We are against all predatory practices and are quite vocal about that.

The fact that you take your company serious, and you defend your company strongly is by itself a good and comforting thing. Do realize that my reply is not a personal attack, as you said yourself there are nowadays numerous fraudsters/predatory players around when it comes to academic publishing, so we all need to be careful.

As you can see (although I adjusted my reply somewhat and made my reply somewhat milder) I just made a factual list of observations (as I did countless times before here on RG in an attempt to evaluate a journal or publisher):

-You are listed in the Beall’s list and quite often this is an important red flag. But by itself not enough, the Beall’s list is far from flawless.

-The UGC approved and/or UGC approved info is often used by predatory journals/publishers to suggest their legitimacy while the info is either false or outdated. In your case it is indeed not found on your website but unfortunately it can be (still) found while search on Google.

-The video is somewhat ambiguous. I do understand advertising and marketing so by itself it is relatively innocent but in the listing of potentially disturbing things it could be a sign to be careful as well.

-The peer review IS in some cases quite short and although I did not say anything about the average it is in an era where publication times seem to take more and more time at least somewhat remarkable. Again by itself not disturbing but in the overall picture it could be a sign.

-The same is true for the PubMed logo. I have seen too often that predatory journals/publisher use the PubMed logo to suggest a PubMed indexing while all that is true is that a number of their papers are NIH granted which are automatically indexed in PubMed irrespective of the journal where the papers are published.

In other words, every single issue is by itself not the ultimate proof to worry a lot but in a time where you must be careful a close look at a journal or publisher is needed nowadays in order to see whether the overall picture might be disturbing or not.

Looking at the comforting observations (ProQuest, EBSCO, your response etc.) it is up to those considering publishing with i-Manager whether this is a safe choice or not.

In times when academics are trying to avoid potentially predatory Journals and there are multiple reports and lists circulating the academic world, it is also equally important to safeguard the interests of Publishers who are on the ethical side, as well-read and well-known academics like you can easily swing the favor to the other side.

Your post has got into Popular replies with 4 recommendations which is affecting the very core of our beliefs and standards.

When big Publishers like Elsevier, Wiley, Springer, Frontiers, MDPI etc. have multiple issues with huge retractions and problematic special issues, are Academics taking it with so much force as against small Publishers?

I believe that the cornerstone of academic publishing is Trust, which should be protected.

Correction needed , when you portray a message In public as an academician you need to more than careful on what you are trying to convey; we are not in the original Beals list and if some anonymous joker puts up a web page citing possible predatory means nothing because he is not credible and he is not an authority to maintain it.And tomorrow if I open up a web page and cite frontier as possible predatory is that going to be taken seriously? When you slander someone in public you need to be prepared to defend your actions with proof and your citing of a promotional video sounds childish and your post is unwarranted when you are associated with other Journals. I suggest you do what is best for your interests or face consequences

And I am wondering why someone who is not assocaited with Nursing at all jumped in created this unwanted post, there is a lot you have to answer

First, my initial comment to the post was to make sure that any researcher or person longing for fame as a member of an editorial board would be careful in considering your journal or publishing company. This was intended to help young researchers learn to look carefully at journals they are considering.

Second, If you took offense at what was posted by myself or Rob Keller than you are not acting as if you are seriously trying to be a better journal, that has respect. I would love to see your company become successful, but that requires you to improve. The larger publishers are very problematic, especially for those of us in science without funding or support from our institutions. Here is an opportunity for you to step up your game and step into the lead for those of us, like you, who are not in the 'well supported/rich' groups.
