The standard method I am following is from an article, where an approximate volume (26mL) of master-batch solution of 0.15M glutaraldehyde in acetone is prepared. In order to achieve cross-linking, a few droplets of HCl is then added with a concentration of 0.05M in the media.
Here are a few suggestions to improve the cross-linking of your PVA/PANI-rGO electrospun mats:
1. Increase the concentration of glutaraldehyde: Increasing the concentration of glutaraldehyde in the master-batch solution may improve the cross-linking of your electrospun mats. You can try increasing the concentration to 0.2M or higher, but keep in mind that higher concentrations may also increase the stiffness of your mats.
2. Increasing the cross-linking time can improve the cross-linking efficiency of your electrospun mats. You can try increasing the cross-linking time to 1-2 hours or longer, depending on the thickness and porosity of your mats.
3. Adjust the pH: The pH of the cross-linking solution can affect the efficiency of cross-linking. Try adjusting the pH of your cross-linking solution to a slightly acidic pH range of 4-6. You can also add a few drops of hydrochloric acid (HCl) to the cross-linking solution to lower the pH.
4. The drying conditions can also affect the cross-linking efficiency of your electrospun mats. Make sure to dry your mats in a well-ventilated area and avoid exposing them to high temperatures or humidity.
5. If glutaraldehyde cross-linking does not work well for your electrospun mats, you can try other cross-linking agents such as formaldehyde, epichlorohydrin, or genipin. Keep in mind that different cross-linking agents may require different conditions and protocols.
Remember to optimize the cross-linking conditions based on the properties of your PVA/PANI-rGO electrospun mats and your specific experiment. It is also important to perform thorough characterization of your electrospun mats after cross-linking to ensure that the cross-linking has improved their properties.
