I think the most important thing before efficiency is to check if your column has selectivity or not. Can it separate any useful chiral compounds in the first place? As a quick and dirty experiment if you don't have any apparatus to pack a column, you may try hand-packing the HPLC column. Take an old empty column, and make a very concentrated suspension in a easily volatile solvent. Slowly fill the column with a dropper, let the material settle and the solvent evaporate, add more and more, till the whole column is filled. It may take 1-2 days. Cap the column and test selectivity. If there is "any" promise, you may ask a professional lab to pack a column for you.
