With NMR spectroscopy you can easily find out the impurities present along with your polymer. For a complicated structured polymer, go for 2D NMR spectra. Hope this helps you.
I think you must try crystallization,,,,,that will give you pure form and make other interpretation easily.......and if you could able to get single crystal then that will be better for X-ray,,,
This depends on the polymer nature, but usually natural polymers do not form perfect crystals. I would go to chromatography to estimate the polymer product dispersity first.
Hi, I think that it is very important to know the technique that you are using to extract your natural polymer (biopolymer). Usual process (using organic solvents) can extract other components from your source. Therefore, the product can be a mixture of components (biopolymers, oligopolymers, etc.). If you want to comment your source and the process that you are using in your extraction, the community can give you more advices or suggestions. I am agree yo use techniques sucha HPLC, NMR etc., but it would be better if you know the components that you are extracting. Tomás Madera.
