%Obtain the dicom image info from the header chunk

info = dicominfo('CTScanExample.dcm');

%Read the image

Image = dicomread(info);

%Display it

figure, imshow(Image ,[]);

Use "dicomread" command or convert dicom file into known formats (jpeg, png, bmp etc) and then use " imread" command.

I don't advice to convert dicom images to lower dynamic range formats (JPEG, png, etc.), you will end up losing information which, in medical imaging, can be very crucial to decision/diagnosis. Besides, scanner settings in the header file of DICOM images will be lost if you do so.
