If you surveyed diversity it would not be an issue. However, if you want to look at abundance as well that is different of course. If you can measure the average weight of each individual you could extrapolate the total abundance if you have the total weight. Other alternatives is count these organisms per colony/group, or exclude altogether.

Should more details be provided about the objectives of this study? It is difficult to clearly quantify with real raw data all individuals in all the groups she mentions, in order to be able to make statistics.
