Tariku Anega, I am sure you will be able to attract more elaborated and sophisticated answers than this, but in essence I think your data can be regarded as originally qualitative, but that your analysis can be regarded as quantitative.

The age-old division into qualitative versus quantitative research is quite unhelpful at times.

I think the most important thing is to describe what you did accurately and honestly.

I would say qualitative since that is how it was gathered. In your data analysis, you systematically coded and found frequencies in patterns. The coded frequencies should be supported by quotes and phrases from the qualitative portion. Not mixed, because you did not collect via a closed-ended questionnaire.

The qualitative and quantitative terms get used in lots of ways, many of which are problematic. Here is a simple way to consider these that is common in most sciences.

Data are just data. Your hypotheses can be quantitative (x predicts a specific quantity y = y_0) or qualitative (x predicts y > y_0).

Quantitative data and qualitative data are dichotomous of the data collection approach, not data analysis. Even you analyze qualitative data quantitatively (e.g., counting the number of themes/codes), it is still be called qualitative research, adopting quantitative analysis procedures. A software that helps researchers do such an analysis is MAXQDA.

I would say this s a qualitative study. Your quantitative analysis may reinforce your qualitative findings.

Mention only what you have done exactly. There is no need to write or classify results under some category.

I would only add that you are careful not to make generalized statements concerning your findings (numbers have a way of inviting generalizations) as such is the domain of a quantitative method of data collection, which involves careful and purposeful sampling practices.

Yes, I agree with David L Morgan here, the results can be shown using content analysis by using frequencies for codings.
