Our group is in need of a CW, or almost CW, UV lightsource emitting with a wavelength somewhere between 200 and 220 nm. 10microwatts or possibly somewhat less will do. Excimer lamps don't seem to be seem available in this interval. Commercial LEDs are available only down to 245 nm it seems(?).
Does anyone have a suggestion?
Depending on how close to true CW you want, check out Xiton http://www.xiton-photonics.com/Typo3/index.php?id=14. They have 212 and 224, but high rep rate QS, not mode locked. The Xcyte from JDSU will give you Quasi CW 355 but also inside the box you get 532 as part of the process (which is dumped). If you are prepared to sacrifice a unit and do some hands-on, you can get inside, extract the 532 as well as the 355 and then mix them to get 212 QCW. True CW will be difficult. Very aggressive wavelengths re materials viability and survival, and you need three or four harmonic generation stages to get this deep which is expensive! Good luck! John

You could try the QS laser from Xiton Photonics Gmbh. This produces >100mW at 213nm at ~10ns, 10kHz. It is an excelent source, but not CW.
You cold try deuterium light source from Ocean Optics model D-2000 Deuterium Light Source(215-400nm), and Xenon illumination source(185-2000) model (HPX-2000)
KrBr (206) or possibily KrCl (222) excimer lamps would meet your requirements. UV Solutions (www.uvsns.com) may be able to provide same.
Maybe SHG from a blue CW laserdiode is an option for you?
Roithner LaserTechnik has some diodes in the range of several hundred mW blue up to 1000 mW for 445 nm.
Xenon lamps and deuterium lamps provide UV radiation in this wavelength range. See this link. Xenon lamps provide more power than deuterium lamps. However, the spectrum of deuterium lamps is smoother than the spectrum of xenon lamps. Xenon lamps can be pulsed. Deuterium lamps can't be pulsed.
There are many companies that sell both xenon lamps and deuterium lamps. Ocean Optics sells a pulsed xenon lamp that may fit your requirements. For your power requirements, a pulsed lamp may be better than a steady-state lamp.
Lamps provide only broadband, incoherent emission. However, they are very efficient. There are no UVEDs or lasers available at 200 nm. Synchrotron radiation sources provide a nearly flat spectrum in this range, but are far too expensive.

Of course these sources are not CW, but quasi CW (~80MHz or what ever the laser is able to deliver). If the spectral width of the ps-HarmoniXX is narrow enough (duration about 6ps, so spectral width is larger than 10pm at 200nm for sure!) for your application is a question that I cannot answer.
At least the costs will be at a completely different level than Laser diodes :-)

In principle SHG of SHG or of a cw-laser is fine. But BBO is only capable of frequency doubling down to 205 (or 204?) nm with vanishing effective nonlinearity close to this wavelength. So the question remains: Is it really necessary to go down to 200nm or is 205nm enough?
Maybe you can use the 4th hamonic generation of a Ti:S laser for the CW or almost CW 200~220nm lighsource. 10microwatts is not very high power. In my opinion, it is OK. However the cost will be very high.
It can be done to generate the light from 198~200nm by BBO by sum-frequency not by double-frequency.
Forth harmonic of Ti:S can be obtained in SBO using fs oscillator at high repetition rate with tuning range 230 - 187 nm without any tuning of nonlinear converter. As I remember, Uppsala University disposes some fs Ti:S facilities?
If you don't need tuning, maybe you could use 5th harmonic of a Fiber Laser. That would get you about 214 nm. But it would be quasi-CW (10-50 kHz). Of course you would probably have to purchase and set up the 3 nonlinear crystals needed for 5th harmonic. You might be able to do such a setup for about 40-50k. Advantage here is that the fiber lasers are pretty reliable and cost is about 10-13 K for the laser.
If you need not laser light source, you can try medium pressure lamp. The radiation lies between 200 and 800 nm. And try cut off unnecessary radiation.
You can use low pressure iodine lamp operated on the strong atomic line 206.16 nm both at CW and pulsed mode.
Deuterium lamp is definitely the cheapest option from above. Or you forgot to point that you need a coherent source.

Hi Jan and others, any luck? We are urgently looking too. Ideally we would get emitters in the low UVC range 200-250 nm with FWHM 5-10 nm, 1 mW optical power, half angle 27 degrees.
