Swimming motility is performed by two types of movements, runs and tumbles and it's in liquid media or at low concentration agar media.

Swarming is a type of surface motility dependent of Quorum Sensing, flagella and surfactans.

Which bacteria are you working with? A colleague performed this work during her PhD on Dickeya. In this paper they describe some mutants that don't tumble etc.. Hope it was useful
