A congenial classroom environment is a necessity for students' academic success. what measures or strategies when instituted will make the classroom interesting.
When we go to the class with full preparation, we can make the class very interesting. We have to make the understand that the student will be happy only when the teacher is happy which means the students have to follow the instructions of the teacher. The teacher must be a role model to students. he must be genuine and be example to the students.
I think first of all it is very important to bring the students back to the subject as mostly their mind remains in the last lecture they attended just before your lecture. Therefore an ice breaking session must be conducted before starting a lecture. Crack some joke or incident which is related to your current lecture and try to grasp their concentration on your lecture to be delivered then tell them some problems which were solved due to the topic which you are going to deliver today why is it important. Then during lecture give some simple examples from their day to day life which will help them to understand the topic well. And in the last dont forget to remind them to see more videos on it on any channel like you tube and encourage them to ask more questions on the topic always leave time atleast 5-10 minutes in the last to answer their queries and don't forget to revise the topic very shortly in the next lecture. You will see that students will start loving your lectures. You can even ask some common simple questions in the middle of lecture and crack few related jokes too it will make the minds of the students a little bit lighter, and they will grasp soon and will also help them to have a break. I have tested it you can even test it and will be happy to hear from you afterwards. Remember ice breaking is must.
Dear Isaac, In my 30 year experience as an instructor in various institutions of higher education, I would say that to make your course interesting, the first "ingredient" is enthusiasm for the topics you will present to students and also making them feel that you are honestly interested in their learning. If you can bring these 2 elements to students since the very first day of class you will reap substantial benefits. You will be able to observe that they feel comfortable to speak up, ask questions and actively participate in what is being taught. Obviously, instructors' preparation in the subject matter is a must! Finally, dedication which is enhanced by the 2 items I mentioned above. Various teaching techniques (e.g. case studies, clickers, technology and more) may assist in the effort however your enthusiasm and keen interest in students' learning will make a difference.
Relate whatever you want to lecture on with reality. Students appreciate live examples. Also occasionally pose to ask questions to check understanding as proceed with the lecture. Avoid making your lectures look complex, for, there is a human touch to everything.
That education in a positive sense affects not only teaching and learning the curriculum but also the room and the immediate spatial environment of "living" there. To see the class-room not as an uninteresting or alienated locality but as children's living-room was part of practice and reflection in the era of the so-called "New-Education" movement hundred years earlier. In particular today when learning for school happens more and more at home with computer and IT programs the relevance of school and classes as room get new relevance. The most important idea to keep the room as valuable is to arouse or strengthen feelings of self-responsibility for an interesting design, with services and duties of the students for all affairs for their room as a their "own" social centre.
Class discussions- held in person or in an online environment, discussions can give individuals a chance to participate.
Also learning cells - by pairing two students together to study and learn, this method lets students ask and answer each other questions, giving them a chance to explore and discuss.
