Ingo-Gangetic Plains (IGP) in India is well envisaged for its productivity and now its deteriorating quality due to over-exploration of natural resources. Rice-wheat cropping system is completely overtaken the traditional multiple cropping and crop rotation systems. This shift in farmers attitude induced by agricultural commercialization is further catalyzing the soil quality deterioration. In addition, greenhouse gaseous emissions (GHG footprint) of agriculture is also the major cause of concern. Certain emerging agronomic practices such as System of Rice Intensification (SRI) and conservation agriculture packages are thought to be the possible nourishing ways to protect the environment and sustain the agriculture. I am interested to know about the fate of SRI in IGP of India, though it has its better adoption and adaptation in other parts of the country. Your suggestions will add a value to my research.
