I'm studying TOGAF to set up an enterprise architecture in my new job. So, I'm curious about the use of ADM (Architecture Development Method) to develop this kind of architectures in universities.
TOGAF is one of the suitable framework for the universities. we adopted this framework for a virtual university with over 2500 student and gained awesome results in the business and information layers. but you should consider that ADM may better to integrate with other existing standards in each layer. for example in business layer processes should be classified with one of existing classifier method like PCF.
I have found that while TOGAF can be applied fully, it is often complimented using elements from other frameworks. For example FEAF for its framework and artefact recommendations or Zachman for the artefact classification framework.
It is also worth noting, that TOGAF training does not teach Enterprise Architecture, rather it teaches people how to use the methods, models and artefacts in TOGAF. This view is often shared by people attending TOGAF training without any prior knowledge of EA.
I have researched the literature regarding EA implementation in higher education, and i might say that TOGAF is not widely spread, at least not in what i have searched. It will also be interesting to see if others have experience with it. Our institution did not use this one.
TOGAF would be a useful vehicle for teaching given its holistic perspective. It covers connecting IT to business strategy. Through the ADM it also contextualises project management, service management and change management in the whole cycle. Also formal modelling through the metamodel. It's a good framework for industry and a good one for teaching curricula too.
How wide is TOGAF application in universities to develop enterprise architectures?
From TOGAF directory (see below link) I can observe some people from universities being TOGAF certified - not sure they work as architect for the universities' IT department or as a student from those universities. Perhaps we can get approval from TOGAF to conduct some research (can be quantitative survey, qualitative interview or even mixed method).
My experience is some institutions pick and chose what part of TOGAF they want to adapt with the majority in project implementation teams not having had EA training previously.
Hola. Es total. La creación de servicios educativos y sus capacidades relacionadas, puede llevarse a cabo usando ADM para establecer la arquitectura de la institución educativa que logre los objetivos propuestos.
I've been teaching TOGAF with LEAD, drawing on https://www.leadingpractice.com/about/openlead/ which are helpful. Luckily I'm an advisor to LEAD so if you are interested I can help you get access to their resources too.
