Impact of academic research on real world is not only an unprecedented antecedent of value co-creation between the academia and industry, but also, instrumental for socio-economic progress. However, ensuring a constructive real-life impact of academic research is challenging. As a result, academics and researchers have been trying to develop ongoing insights on how we could bridge the research and practice gap?
I think that before choosing the subject of research, making a surveying for cases in practice which need solving or improvement will reduce this gap.

A good question having practical relevance! We have been facing this problem whenever we recruit fresh engineering graduates, who come with rich theoretical knowledge but are not able to give 'out of box' (books) solutions/answers to practical problems/questions posed to them. So I would like to suggest: (a) More interface between the industry and academia on real time basis, (b) Framing of syllabus offered at higher education institutions (HEIs) along with industry involvement- to ensure practical relevance (c) On rotation basis the corporate could be encouraged by the HEIs to engage with the academia on short term and long term projects so that all the involved stakeholders get a platform for "value co-creation".
