(1) In case of nanoparticles system using solgel synthesis, if we get the crystallite size reduction start from 50 nm to 20 nm? And we observe the band gap increasing as crystallite size decreasing. Can we say directly that there is a quantum confinement effect?
(2) And if the band gap decreasing with the crystallite size decrements? How we can interpret it?

Hi Sajid,
1) If crystal size (any direction) comparable to de Broglie wavelength, you will see quantum confinement effect, and that size about 100 nm or smaller. As size decreasing, low energy levels density of state is decreases in k-space, and than you probably saw high energy band to band transition.
