If virtual topology design is implemented using lightpath management can this approach assure quality of service provision over optical label switching networks?
the traffic protection in label-switching optical networks (in GMPL networks) is provided primarily by the Link Management Protocol (LMP). The GMPLS architecture includes a control place with routing and signaling protocols. These partially support "traffic protection".
The Routing Protocols are: OSPF-TE (RFC 3660), GMPLS OSPF-TE as Extension of OSPF-TE (RFCs 4203 and 5786), IS-IS-TE (RFC 5305) and GMPLS IS-IS-TE (RFC 5307).
The Signaling Protocols are: RSVP-TE (RFC 2205, RFC 3209), GMPLS RSVP-TE (RFC 3473), CD-LDP (RFCs 3212, 3468 and 5036) and GMPLS CD-LDP (RFCs 3472 and 4201).
To support inventory of network resources, verify connectivity and other features, the Link Management Protocol (LMP) was developed by the IETF and specified in 2005 as RFC 4204. Later, LMP was extended functionally (see: RFCs 4209, 4394, 5818 and 6898).
LMP is a protocol used between adjacent Optical Crossconnects (OXCs). With LMP, the individual physical connections between OXCs can be checked and tested. Using LMP it is possible to detect some errors in GMPLS networks. LMP requires a control channel between OXCs. My pictures explain this in more detail.

Control plane and data plane can contribute to the topology design and QoS provision in OLS networks. However, the main issue in topology design building is how the synchronization between data and control planes can manage in real-time traffic supervision and QoS support. For this reason, it is indispensable to upgrade the used framework including label signaling and label switching for traffic supervision and resource management.
The control plane related to the optical switched network can be considered as the main solution for manage the logical topology design and providing the best set of lightpaths. From these lightpaths, it is important to selected the optimal lightpath that provides the traffic requirements and reduces the usage of the available resources.
