I am writing a research protocol. for this study, I do not collect data, I use already existing data collected for another purpose. How to structure the methodology of my research work? what are the essential parts?
Your study duration would be from the time of protocol writing till submission to the target journal. Cross sectional study will be conducted and retrospective data will be collected....like this..you can proceed....my suggestions......
hello dear Joel, the structure of the methodology will depend on the domain in which you want to study. you can see first, previous study in the domain and if possible, the person who collected the data can give you the methodology, if not, you can make like previous study and don't forget to notice the origin of the data in your project.
The essential parts of a research depend on the journal or the institution where you have to submitte.
In social sciences, this will depends on the nature of the data and wether this data is public, like a survey from a national statistical agency, or it has been collected by another researcher ou research team for a particular project. In the latter cas, it is good practice to clearly distinguish the collection method (study context and purpose, participants, material, design, procedure) from the original study and what has been used for the secondary analysis.
