How to write the generic R function for finding the grid box in a netcdf files?

i am working on the netcdf file focussed for the Mediterranean region and I want to write generic R function to find my grid box from the ij matrix. i have written the code for morocco desert but now I want to focus on rhone river basin. I want a function to do so. please help me with that.
