how to write multiply in this case?
the * was definetely a mistake, however it did not come until chapter four . but the three chapters before it I was using only x and teh x got circled from the beginning of the thesis.
It's not that wikipedia is always correct, but i think it is in this case:

For the 10 x 10E9 it would have been better as 1010 or as 10 ⨯ 109. This might have been encircled because of the "E".
For grids, I would always use 100 ⨯ 200 and have never had a problem with this. [Noting that I am typing in a sans serif font, and the difference between ⨯ (multiply) and x (the lowercase letter) is not much, whereas there would be a considerable difference when using Times New Roman]
I disagree with using * in text but I guess that many do use it because programming languages use it for multiplication.
