Hi,
I am currently writing a Ph.D. personal statement. In general, I am aware of writing such a statement but the situation in my case is a little different. The university offers a funded Ph.D. degrees for many themes, which means there is no specific topic to be targeted. However, I would be able to write a research proposal that is related to one of these themes. Moreover, the university instruction does not state any word limit.
My questions:
1- Is there any recommended structure that suits this condition?
2- What is the recommended length in this case?

Obviously most people would agree that your statement should describe the problem or controversy your PhD proposes to address. In your case you will have to show that the topic falls within one or more of the prescribed themes. Then you might also say why the topic is important, objectively speaking; describe briefly the state of current research and what you hope your research will contribute; and conclude by mentioning anything in uour training that has specifically prepared you to tackle the issue effectively.
