As we know, it is very critical to have a good Thesis title. Sometimes it becomes very general? Sometimes very precise? I invite some advises on it? I am doing my PhD in mechanical engineering. Thank you.
There is no specific rule for choosing a thesis title. It is preferable to consult your thesis supervisor and to take into account its suggestions. The thesis titles with challenge that reflect the rigor of the scientific approach, are very common in scientific doctoral theses.
The descriptive title is the most prudent solution. This type of title provides the subject on which the study was conducted, informs the theme, without plunging further into the challenge, or talking about the plan. Although not very original, this type of title ensures its role and avoids a false step: difficult to be more succinct.
The explicit title is a variant of the descriptive title which has the advantage of exposing a little more on the subject: it can contain elements of the plan, but also the axis that will be studied, and thus gives an idea of the argumentation. These titles appeal more easily than a simple descriptive title, but may also appear heavier, too long. They should be used with caution.
Alternative to the explicit title, the title with a question also gives the focus of the study. Through this title already poses the challenge of the thesis, the question to which we will try to answer. This title also makes it possible to challenge those who read the thesis, in particular to question them about a fact that is considered as acquired, and can therefore be a very good way to capture attention.
Even without a miracle solution, a good work plan must allow time to search for the title of the thesis. In addition, the addition of a subtitle allows greater flexibility in the formulation of its title
Thank you Prof. Bachir ACHOUR. Actually, In my case, if I want to clearly specify the title it becomes too long and if I go for a short one, it becomes either very general or very very specific. I have already wrote some titles and will consult my supervisor. The idea of adding subtitle can work in my case. Thanks again
a title should have four components like ..... what is to be researched..? ... with whom the research is to be conducted?...... where the research is going to be conducted?...in what context the research should be conducted...?......when you answer these questions probably you may get a better research title.......
