Economics has many schools of thought, most notably Keynesians and Monetarists. Very rarely does an article span more than one school. For instance, the Marxian schools deals with historical materialism, which a standard school will not entertain. There are subdisciplines also within a school, such as post-Keynesians and New Keynesians within Keynesians.

As a general remark, just as it may seem odd to write a critical review of Plato by quoting Aristotle, so it will be to critically review one school by quoting another. So, in my opinion, I will conduct a critical review base on the shared paradigm only of the article under review.

(Sorry about my english) Thomas De Quincey was a great literarian writer but, he also was a great reader of economics and philosophy. He wrote some texts on both subjects here is a review about it: https://www.hetwebsite.net/het/profiles/quincey.htm . I really recomend his texts.

On the other hand, an author who I think is a great guide for what you´re looking for is Foucault. With him you can analyse the economics and historic dyscourse at the level of the dyscourse. For example: Instead of wondering about the veracity of the results, you can ask yourself about the way in which the arguments are constructed, to what principles and meanings they respond, etc. The books I recomend you of Foucault are The archeology of Knowledge and (for the economics topic) The birth of biopolitics. And also, for the historical topic, I think Ranciere is a very good author for what you´re looking for, the text of Ranciere I suggest is The names of history.

The first article can be approached by the study of the production function, with respect to the basic assumption of the authors (different goods///different production functions///historical formation of production pattern).

The second article about cooperative wine production can be approached from the basic insights into cooperative economics in capitalist markets, e.g. the consumer trend to high quality wines, after 1980.

Both articles are case studies, which also needs methodical attention, with respect to the economic historical framework (interplay of micro-and macro-economic factors///location and time).

All economic historiography is contained in Karl Marx's Das Kapital: from the advanced, for his time, Aristotle's notes on the subject, to the roots of neoliberal economic "thought." In his work you will find a critical but objective view of the different economic theories and their proponents. In fact, Keynesianism is a mixture of Marxian and liberal concepts (which already existed in Marx's time), but at least it does not sin to confuse mathematical models with realities that involve people (as certain reputed economists do). The problem that a layman encounters when facing economic constructions based on mathematical models is to know mathematics well to be able to refute them: that is what Mario Bunge did in a little book in which he breaks down the main economic currents of our time.

It is not impossible to reach this goal, but it is not easy, either. Forget about school of thoughts, you will never go sufficiently far in this direction, and most likely you will be confused.

For the time being, try to remember what you learned about history in high school or college. Literary skills are very useful for anyone who wants to write about something. Also, Mark Blaug is a good clue for the history of economic thought.

Reading Das Kapital is useless, and will only confuse you.

Adding: most of all, forget about Das Kapital and Karl Marx! Not a convenient reading for your purposes. Not all is contained there, as someone said above. Take advantage of your literary skills.

Zohra Belghiti My reading of the empire effect is to consider the law of comparative advantage as formulated by D. Ricardo. A huge market itself does not yield this mutual advantage, which always comes with win/win and win/lose effects for participants. Every empire exhausts its exploitative and imperialistic effects and advantages; the reason for this is gradual price adjustment over a certain time, i.e. negative leveling. Currency differences seem to slow down this trend, while same currency payments seem to speed it up.
