How to totally understand the two phase flow level set method for a freshman?

I know a little bit about this method, but when people ask me about this, I can not tell them clearly. So I know actually I am not totally understand this theory: how it works and the equations behind it.

Can anyone give any suggestion about how to understand this theory efficiently?
