I am testing a radar level measurement instrument but it is not working properly. I used water and fuel for testing but if actual fuel level is 0.2m, 0.4m, 0.6 m,0.8m then the radar level output is showing 1.6m constant.
So, please tell me what i need to do and How can i check the electronic part?

Has the unit been used before in a similar application and has failed, or is this a new application?
The reason is, if this is a new application, perhaps the unit may have a minimum measurement resolution of 1.6m, and is intended for use with large liquid storage tanks?
Also by radar, would it be correct to assume the unit uses microwaves and not ultrasonics for liquid level measurement?
Is the manufacturer and model number of the radar transceiver (transmitter/receiver) module known? Perhaps there may be documentation accessible online for the servicing, testing or calibration procedures of the module?
If using with fuel, please make sure the unit is properly certified for use with petrochemicals or flammable liquids.

The total probe length is 1.6m and it uses microwaves for liquid level measurement. Problem is it is continuously giving the o/p 1.6m in the display irrespective of actual level.
I am using diesel as a fuel and supplying 20V for input. Input voltage range is 16V-28V. I know the general procedure of testing and calibration of this model but i don't know about the electronic circuit of this model.
If i reduce or increase the probe length then what will happen? will it help?

Thank you for clarifying the technical specs for the probe; the fact that it only seems to measure its own probe length, seems to imply that the transmitter energy does not seem to be leaving the exit aperture, or that the internal dimensions or topography of the probe near the end have been altered, producing an unbalanced load reflecting the transmitter energy back to the receiver.
