Because Covid-19 is interrupting social connection. We need to interact, not only electronic. We need to establish emotional conection because emotions are key to learning.

Students can somehow support in terms of lesson, but the important thing is to support them emotionally. In this regard, especially families have important duties.

Support to students during these testing times ought to involve several levels:
-Support for learning:
Providing teaching and learning materials online, through digital readings, lecture recordings and PowerPoint slides, having online one to one or group tutoring through Skype or Microsoft teams, Answering questions by e-mails, etc.
-Support for assessment:
Extension of deadlines, replacing face to face presentations with recorded PowerPoint slides with inserted sound, allowing in special circumstances for reduced requirements for dissertations, such as accepting substantial literature reviews because students are not able to collect data due to closures and social distancing regulations. For first year university students, end of year examinations can be cancelled or rescheduled perhaps and all attempts need to be made to avoid crowding of students.
-Emotional and health support:
Referring students to university counseling services and offering them your understanding and sympathy to reduce their stress and concern about studies. Universities should have daily communication with staff and students about health and safety precautions aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19. Universities may need to move into remote work completely to ensure infection is not spread and students need to be allowed to return to their families. Other measures may include deep cleaning of university premises and installing fixed disinfectant dispensers.
Unfortunately, this epidemic will be with us for at least the summer if not the rest of the year while it peaks in different countries around the world. Staff need to look after themselves too. Keep well everyone.

In my university , we're using google hangout meet with the Dr giving instructions and brief explanation for the next week meet. It is so effective and efficient till now! But, as a student I would say that, more than one hour online lecturing is exhausting. So it is better to have assignments before meeting so we don't lose time or get bored. Finally, from a personal perspective, I found it efficient since I have met my Doctors before for 2 sessions so I have kind of emotional connection with each of them.
you can create a google classroom. It is easy to use and It allows you guys to stay connected.

Daily meetings in Microsoft Teams is working well here in Finland. Daily interaction as well as routines, safety and support is very important in this situation. Children/students with special education need must be contacted individual some way (whatsapp, skype, chat, notes...) to get the help they need with. Teachers must be creative to be sure that children/students still are scaffolded.
We are working with online learning and with synchronous classes I start each one with an opening circle - each of us responds to an open-ended prompt. An example: "What do you keep on turning to in your life?". Prompts can be formed around storytelling from our lives, relating to curriculum, values, etc. This practice is drawn from restorative justice practices. I've added a pdf. The material is adopted from Kristi Cole and Paul Dedinsky’s packet of Restorative Justice Practices, Milwaukee Public Schools. Safe Schools/Healthy Students.

How to stimulate research
I recommend that my students review recently published original research papers and submit letters to journals in response to these articles. As a doctor I recommend the BMJ because it publishes e-letters. There is a low threshold for publication online and some letters are selected for publication in the journal itself.
This process requires all the steps required to perform research except the actual collection of data. This can generate a lot of discussion between staff and students. It is also great motivation for the student to get a rapid publication (albeit of low impact).
