I am currently working on a project involving biological applications of iron oxide nanoparticles. It seems synthesized nanoparticles have contaminated and I want to know is it okay to use UV radiation to sterilize nanoparticles and are there any other methods to sterilize iron oxide nanoparticles?
UV could work but be advise: iron oxide upon UV irradiation generates radicals. Gamma irradiation will be better opion if you have it.
I tried to filter them. The problem was larger particles block the pores and it was hard to filter. I will try to autoclave them. Thank you all for your helpful ideas.
Mostly, IONPs are free from any contamination due to harsh synthesis conditions. However, it can be added duringsome downstrem process such as functionalization. If you are sure of contamination, washing with organic solvents can also be performed a quick way to sterilize IONPS.
