As we know a PV plant production varies throughout the day and year. How to choose the size a compressor that will work on PV power? Of course the compressor has a minimum and maximum working limits of power and voltage.
The system will not have batteries to operate the compressor.
Well, it depends on the application of the compressor and its number of cycles.
However, let's say you have five 100 watt panels with 4 peak-hours working time...that results into 730kWh/year. Taking into consideration the inverter and battery losses, this means that the size of the compressor could be between 500 and 600kWh. This is a rough estimate of course in perfect working conditions and optimum irradiance.
many thanks Ahmad Manasrah for your answer. Should I divide the 500 to 600 kwh by 4 hours to have the compressor power ??? Also, the PV power will be about half the summer power, Will the compressor work during winter ??
Normally compressors are rated based on kWh annually (ex: refrigerators). However, it depends on how many hours the compressor will be on. (Newer compressors will also be more efficient regarding the on/off working ratio).
About the pv system, the 4 peak sun hours is a good round number for summet and winter in most regions. You can add the average irradiance to the equation but the energy output of the modules will change.

The compressor will be part of a compressed air energy storage integrated with a PV power plant of 5 kW. So, an energy of 20 to 25 kWh daily is available.
Compressors are selected per power as I can find in different catalogues and the PV plant power ranges from zero to about 1.6 kW by noon in winter and from zero to about 4 kW in summer. What would be the power of a compressor ??
