could you release any information on your database concerning the petrography of the dimension and ornamental stones in question, the weathering phenomena and related encrustations/"mineralization", age of building and exposure to the weathering regimes and man-made pollution. These parameters need to be fixed prior to any laboratory tests.

-We have four types of rock: carbonate tufa (micritic texture), chalky limestone (mudstone), pinkish limestone(wackestone/packstone>grainstone) and beige limestone(grainstone).
-Many weathering forms especially flaking and alveolisation with salt-action (gypsum and halite) present mainly on pinkish limestone which is most degraded.
-Age of building: 6 century.
- Environment condition: semi-arid climate, with maximum humidity in the north facade.
the monument is situated in the city center of town

The natural phenomena to compare with pertain to what might be called karstification. Even if the time is rather short relative to natural processes you should find efflorescence and poorly crystallized "minerals" which can constrain as to its composition and type using XRD and SEM-EDX/WDX. Based upon these data you get a first-hand idea of the micro-physical-chemical regime. Parallel to that neomorphism I suggest investigating the substrate as to the petrographic and chemical composition of the calcareous rocks. This is a rough proposal to design your project.
