In the farfiled rectangular graph for planar array antenna, how to shift the main beam?
The most common response, regardless of the program, change linear phase voltages at the antenna elements. But a specific answer depends on what you have done in HFSS. Write about it more fully.
Dear Sir, thank you for kind response. I have 8 elements rectangular microstrip patch antenna fed by coaxial cable individually, i applied 1w magnitude of each antenna. The radiation pattern have major lobes and equal side lobes, now i want to shift the main beam from 0deg to +50 or -50 deg.
Are you performing a bistatic measurement? My experience with this type of device is usually excited by an incident wave, however I think some of the same principles apply. You can add an infinite, bistatic radiation sphere in post processing where you define the scan angles theta and phi.
Hi Mohan, You can apply a linear phase shift between array element in the linear array.
If the distance between elements is d and the tilt angle that you want is theta (theta=0 is for no tilt), apply a phase shift of phi=k0dsin(theta) where k0 is the free space wave number. For example for 8 elements the phases for each sources would be: 0, phi, 2phi, 3phi, 4phi, 5phi, 6phi, 7phi
In the dialog where you apply the 1w power, add gradual phase shift to each element as told by Halim. The resulting array will have its beam steered depending upon your delta phase.
