I am working on porphyrin type molecules like phthalocyanine and naphthalocyanine. I am facing difficulties in purifying the compound as this compound decomposes in the alumina or silica column. From the literature, I found that SEC is used for purification of these compounds. But I tried Bio beads S-X1 to purify the compounds and it turned out that the impurities are not removed. The main problem is my compound is soluble in DCM or THF not soluble in methanol. So I tried recrystallization in methanol but still, the impurities are present. I need a suggestion in choosing an SEC column which allows purification of molecules having a mass above 1000 Da and will restrict the compounds which have a mass of 600 Da as my impurities have a mass around 600 Da. Please suggest an appropriate SEC column in which I can use DCM or THF?
I never used SEC, but I think your compounds are acid sensitive. you may consider using basic alumina or neutral alumina. Phthalocyanines can sublime, sublimation is another alternative to purify.
