I have recently carried out a BMP test, and realized that the microbial consortium (brewery wastewater) used as inoculum had high alkalinity concentration (about 4500 mg/L as CaCO3) with a pH of 8.3. This affected the performance of my BMPs.

Can I reduce the alkalinity of the inoculum by washing prior to AD or are there other ways to reduce the alkalinity?
