I have prepared gold nano-particles by sol gel method , I used TEOS with glycerol , ethanol, HCl and KAuCl4 prepared in water concentration 510-3 M after one hour in the oven at 60 C the color changed to red color. After few days the color of obtained gel turned to the white color .
Now, my question is : Is it the right way to prepare gold nano-particles by sol gel method ???

Hello Haja, Indeed the studies Dmitriy has shown you are very good and relevant. In your case I would suggest that you first prepare alkane thiol protected AuNPs via the Brust Schiffrin Method, which has been widely applied. This process uses usually a strong reducing agent like sodium borohydride, phase transfer reagent and thiol ligation, to prevent further NP growth. You can read about it in the numerous studies on this topic ....
The advantage with such AuNPs formed by the Brust Schiffrin method, is that they can be dried out, and then redispersed in organic solvents when needed at any concentration. The excellent size control conferred by this method and the ability to then achieve higher concentrations of applied AuNPs (relative to the more traditional methods, which allow only very low concentrations) will give you valuable versatility in your research.
