Hi if any one can help I have a standard stock solution that prepared in nitric acid and I want to prepare several concentration for AAS from the stock in which dissolvent should I prepare the concentration? can I used distilled water or 0.1 nitric acid?
You will probably want to keep the matrix of your samples and standards as similar as possible. If your samples are in 1% HNO3, try to keep the final concentration of calibrants as close to 1% HNO3 as well.
If you are concerned about it, try a simple experiment where you increase the acid concentration, and see how that affects your results. Also, test out how repeatable your results are by measuring the same samples over several days, that will show how consistent your results are. Errors of 1-5% might be quite normal for your matrix and instrument. Maybe even 10% if you're at the low end of detection.
If your standard stock solution solubility is not effected in distilled water you can use, I think it is not effected in distilled water. Employing formula C1V1=C2V2
actually I digested my samples in Hcl so it will affect if I prepare the dilution concentration from the stock standard and to complete the volume with distilled water or I should diluted with same as stock (nitric acid)?
Can you obtain a standard stock dissolved in HCl? Then dilute that in dilute (1%) HCl to your final concentrations.
If not, then you'll have to dilute the stock in dilute HCl to match the digested samples.
If the concentration of HNO3 from the stock solution is enough to affect your AAS readings after dilution (unlikely, but maybe you should test it just in case), then add enough concentrated HNO3 to your digested samples to match the calibration standards, but not significantly diluting the samples.
