H0 : Both male and female students equally likely believe that programming is an interesting subject
H1 : male students believe more than female students that programming is an interesting subject
1. the spss test results attached ( I selected male as group 1 and female as group 2). How can I interpret it?
2. is my null hypothesis correct? should it be changed as
H0 : male students believe less than female students that programming is an interesting subject
I do not believe that you have stated your H0 and H1 in the correct form. In particular, if your H1 is that there will be a difference favoring males, then your H0 should include both the case of no difference and the case of a difference that favors females.
In general, SPSS returns the results for a two-tailed test, so to convert for a one-tailed test, simply divide the p value in half.

Thank you very much for your explanation. If I state my hypothesis as follows and perform a two tailed test I hope it is correct
H0 : Both male and female students equally likely believe that programming is an interesting subject
H1 : There is a difference between the view of male and female students on the statement programming is an interesting subject
Then if null hypothesis is rejected how can I check the result further . i.e. if there is a difference between the view of male and female students on the statement programming is an interesting subject then how can I check whether male believe more than female that programming is interesting or vice versa?
