How to perform Hilbert transform of discrete sequence in Matlab?

There is two way for taking Hilbert transform in Matlab,

Method 1: Multiply the frequency domain sample by "i* sign(w)" and

Method 2: We can use inbuilt "hilbert" function .

I am not able to find which one is better method 1 or method 2.
