I've been using HFSS for a while and struggling about getting accurate result in less simulation time. I have one desktop computer to use HFSS and another Laptop to use CST. Desktop computer has 4 cores and can be upgrade to 12 cores with HPC Pack and the laptop has only 2 cores. They both have 16GB RAM.
I've tried to simulate same Spiral Antenna with both computers. It took 40 minutes to get the results with laptop (CST). Desktop computer ( HFSS) couldn't solve the same antenna due to this warning "Out of Memory". I tried to change some solution setup and design properties such as
*Direct solver --> Iterative Solver for less RAM requirement
* 3D copper/pec materials --> 2D sheets with Finite Conductivity for less Mesh
and ext.
* Tried Radiation Boundary and PML
With those options I managed to get results with HFSS but comparing the one I got from CST. The HFSS results were so much worse and probably not accurate.
Comparing my desktop computer with my Laptop. The desktop is more developed but can't even solve the antenna and get similar results that I already have.
And this is just one example that I've been struggling with. Long story short, I have better computer to use HFSS than the one with CST but never got the same results with both application for any kind of antenna. How is that possible ? Please help , thanks in advance
Are you using the same method of solution with the two codes, or time domain with one and method of moments with the other?
I have found that for resonant structures HFSS results are sensitive to the solution frequency. If you have resonant antenna you can verify how much of an impact changing the solution frequency has on your results.
If the method is sensitive to solution frequency then it is probably method of moments which is performed at spot frequencies. CST can use this method or a time domain method, which is different, and not so well suited to highly resonant structures.

HFSS is sensitive software to numerical techniques. HFSS uses method of moment whereas CST uses time domain infinite integral method. Also solver which is being used to solve the structure and it also sensitive for highly resonating structure. Also check the mesh cells which is being used.
