I want to obtain the S parameters of a ridge waveguide in HFSS by putting two waveports at the two ends of the waveguide. But the S21 becomes so small (about -10dB). I think it is probably due to the mismatch between the ridge waveguide and the waveports. Is it right? What should I do to correctly calculate the S parameters?
what actually are your trying for?> If you choose a standard waveguide and allow a presence of post or ridge like structure inside , you are definitely effecting the wave propagation inside. As u said due to mismatching there will have poor S11 and in turn poor S21. Instead I feel like going for putting strcutures inside second guide so that dominant mode is not hampered or otherwise called giving discontinuities from your basic standard guide.

It is by no means due to waveport because when you define a waveport on the waveguide's cross section, waveguide will be assumed as infinite with a similar cross section continued to the infinity. Maybe your problem is due to probable problems with your drawing of the structure in HFSS.
