How to model the contact element to represent the air gap?

I want to model the ultrasonic probe with out fluid layer. Originally, fluid layer is neccessary to realize the impedance matching between specimen and probe. However, if there is no fluid layer, air gap is generated in this location. I want to model this air gap using contact element (combination of stiffness and damping). Please, Give me some knowledge about the contact element applied in this situation.
