Hello, I have a study of columns strengthened with 2, 4, and 6 layers of unidirectional CFRP.
1)- Does the number of layers refer to the number of plies, or should I divide each layer into 2 plies at least..?!
2)- When we say Unidirectional, does it mean all plies are in the same direction..?!
modelling CFRP in Abaqus is widely common , you can read some literature review about CFRP or composite modeling in finite element , However, in Abaqus you can select 2 plies for each layer (top and bottom) and indicate fiber as embedded in matrix . all you need to insert the properties tabulated in geometry tab. Thanks for you response Areej, regarding the layers I got the idea of modelling each layer as 2 plies and 4 layers as 8 plies and so on, but regarding the orientation of plies, does Unidirectional CFRP means that all the plies are in the same direction with the same orientation angle..?
