I am trying to conduct a survey study in the general population in different countries and would like to minimize potential selection bias in the process. I would appreciate suggestions on how to approach this. Thank you!
There are several approaches to minimize the potential selection bias in surver study. Some of them are are follows;
1. Ensure that your survey design process hasn’t left someone out and your survey distribution method (email, web, Google form etc) and survey timing make sense for those respondents.
2. Keep your survey short (and let people know it’s short) so they’ll be more likely to take your survey.
3. Vary your questions and answers, and use multiple choice questions in addition to scale questions.
4. Group questions by topic, but randomize the order of the questions within that topic.
5. Limit your answer option list, but include a free response option to capture any choices you may have missed.
Triangulate. To avoid elite bias, select more than one level of interviewees within an organization, for instance: CEOs, Middle managements, associates
That would be best if you can randomize your selection process. If not, you may consider using purposive sampling and provide reasonable justification for your inclusion/ exclusion criteria. Hope it helps.
