After the paper was written (and submitted) I discovered a previous relevant research having much in common with my paper.
I will have a chance to edit the paper before publishing it.
What is the best practice to deal with this situation? How should I mention the missed and discovered research? Does such situation require a full rewrite of my paper?

Write a letter to the editor and explain your problem

Write this confession in a footnote. This will require minimal work. If the discovery impacts your paper badly, then write a new paper.
Just incorporate the reference and add the information and how it influences your interpretations
I agree with Andrew. Include the additional citation and reference in your final revision, but do not call your readers' attention to it, because they have not seen your earlier drafts.
