Study the language, and understand how and why local people place a value on words that represent what is significant to life in the community. Let the curriculum integrate how the young can learn from their elders' livelihoods to build on those achievement. Yes, allow the children to experience those practices that have been found valuable, and use education to improve the students' world.
Hi Ahmad, I have been working with Indonesian teachers in incorporating Pancasila values in curriculum. In collaboration we explored the values and analysed ways that they are outworked everyday. Then we talked about how we could use questioning techniques to help our students do the same and then make them a focal part of bring our actions and discussions together. Maybe you can have a look at some of my papers and find more info about this. Hope this helps and please share what ideas you have too so we can all learn from each other :)
Ahmad Muthohar, thank you for raising such an important issue.
I have personally tried to teach "wisdom/values" using local examples that are related to the the curriculum. For example, when teaching Concept A, we can use a local example that connects some "wisdom/value" to Concept A.
For example, the concept of efficiency/optimization in economics can be connected to the value of "not wasting valuable resources".
Levar os conhecimentos tradicionais para a sala de aula significa valorizar seus indivíduos e integrar os anciões num ambiente em que muitos deles não tiveram a possibilidade de estar quando crianças.
