I need help to add metamaterial (MTM) to my antenna design. Where can we insert MTM? It says that the bandwidth is enhanced and antenna size is minimized, how to prove this in the design? Kindly suggest.
Dear Amrit Kaur, the MTM improve the antenna performance such as , increase the bandwidth reduction in antenna size, improve the gain , efficiency and matching impedance. The MTM as you know have many types such as ENG,MNG (either the permittivity is negative or the permeability is negative), LHM (both of the permittivity and permeability is negative) and AMC, or EBG (both the permittivity and permeability almost close to zero). So, if you need using the MTM structure in your antenna design FIRST you have to decide what you want to improve first and after that which one of the MTM structure is suitable for that.for example you can use the MTM with ground plane or you can use the EBG above the your patch....ect there are many ways to do that I HOPE this will help you to solve your problem.
Metamaterials can be used as part of the antenna structure, which aims to design a compact antenna size without deteriorating performance of its. Antenna design incorporating metamaterials can provide further miniaturization of antenna. It enhance efficiency, gain, B. W of conventional antenna designs.
Depending on the design goal or objective, we can apply MTM (ENG, MNG, DNG shell):
Like for bandwidth improvement, we may apply it in form of SRR, or unit cells of metamaterials as superstrate.
For gain improvement, AMC and AMM structures.
For reduction of antenna size by shifting its resonant frequency, it can be applied as DGS.
