Today is the world environment day so i discuss the very important topic . because the temperature of earth is increased caused by global warming. so the large amount of flora and fauna of earth is disappeared. this is the alarm of big disaster . then what kind of efforts are necessary to increase the flora and fauna of earth?
Increase the number and surface of Protected Natural Spaces. Declare the rainforests and the boreal forests World Heritage. Prohibit extensive livestock farming and grazing. Reduce agricultural production (farmland) and remove it from the market economy, improving the global distribution of food without being dependent on speculators (Millions of tons of agricultural products are destroyed every year to prevent prices from falling. sink) .....
Francisco Belmonte Serrato JI; Said is exactly, when we protect or develop a flora automatically developed a good ecosystem, Global warming and Species(Flora & Fauna) destruction all like these incidents happens only because of decreasing the Carbon stock.
day to day we lose enormously flora, that's why necessary and mandatory thing to ours protect it.
When we save the plants that will give a non-polluted environment to us.

Hi Dalveer, this is an interesting question indeed.
As said by all the fellow researchers, the declaration of protected areas, endurance of water quantity, reduction of farmland, grazing etc. can definitely be a key factor towards increasing the flora and fauna on earth.
But to me, common people are also needed to be associated to the conservation works. They need to be told about the importance of such flora and fauna and must be gone through some awareness camping so that they can understand the importance of it, and indulge themselves into forestation and it's conservation that will in turn increase the fauna as well as check the problems related to global warming...

Don't mind ma'am, but i think it is utterly impractical to develop temperature tolerant species through Recombinant DNA Technology with the vision of increasing natural flora and fauna.
As a conservationist, the goal is to conserve the naturally occuring species, not to modify the species genetically into a new one by artificial means.

I think by using all possible means of conservation including creating reserves; insitue and exsitue conservation; controlling poaching operations around the world; and less involving animals and plants in wars.
I think Dalveer is asking to increase diversity of flora and fauna on the earth. The quantity of flora and fauna is not less on the earth but mono-cultures both plants and animals for high production system to meet human needs is problem. We are in race of clonal production system without seeing its impact on the natural system in long run. SO I think as mentioned by by many respondents focus to be increase the natural habitats as well as in ex situ measure also apply principles of natural selection. Further on farm lvel also we need to have diversity of flora an fauna for better agroecosystem which will favours the biodiversity and quality of flora and fauna.
Conservation is the only method to prevent species loss, biotechnological experiments on natural species may not be a sustainable ways of species improvement in the ecology.
