Hello, fellow scientists. Resently I have been experimenting on PMMA/Graphene composites. I have obtained a flexural strength of ~40MPa and a flexural modulus of ~2500MPa under the following conditions: 120°C, 50PSI, 1h air curing; obtaining bubble free Samples. I have been reading several papers that report higher flexural properties but I have no idea were I am making a mistake or missing details. I was thinking in adding some EGMMA as co-monomer. Is there any way to increase flexural properties without adding additives? Greetings!

I suppose you should consider chemical treatment of CNT with NaOH/HNO3 to subsequently produce fiber-matrix bonding (via nitric and/or oxygen-containing groups), and increase adhesion. Please, check the following papers:Article Surface Modification of Carbon Fibers with Nitric Acid Solutions

Currently I am not working with CNT's but with pure graphene powders (5 Layers). Does this method also works with the graphene layers added to the polymer/monomer mixture previous to polymerization?

Sorry, I read your sentence with a mistake. However, it seems to work the same - not only for surface modification, but for restoring defects of graphene ("Graphene oxide has been extensively studied in this aspect, but it often involves thionylchloride for surface modification and hydrazine hydrate for reduction to restore parts of the defects"). Also, surface modification enhance graphene dispersibility ("It was found that interface modification has a profound effect on the nanocomposites. SEM observation showed that the modification markedly improved the dispersion of GnPs since no aggregate was observed on the fracture surface of PMMA/m-GnP composites.").
