Dear Colleagues,
I am working on a project in which we mix LDPE, TiO2 and CaCO3 in a twin screw extruder but, after the mixing section, white spots (apparently TiO2 aggregates) are detectable on the surface and I suppose it's due to poor dispersion. What is your suggestion? to incorporate a fatty acid and if yes, what kind of fatty acid? because, I currently employ stearic acid in the composition. Looking forward to reading your valuable recommendations.

Dear Mohammad Raef, I think the best option to surface modify TiO2, why not with a given fatty acid. Also, if you are preparing TiO2, use fatty acids as capping agents, or use the green synthesis approach with plant extracts or a given capping agent that have similar structures to fatty acids. IT IS A COMMON TO USE STEARIC ACID AS COUPLING AGENT FOR POLYOLEFINS, MAY BE CHANGING THE CONCENTRATION IT WOULD BE AN OPTION
Usually, when stearic acid is used as a modifier of superficies, it is necessary to mix previously with Calcium Carbonate, to modify the surface tension; I believe that it is the same behavior with TiO2.
